Witham Wharf Hits a Century
Lincoln's exclusive waterside development, Witham Wharf (www.withamwharf.com) has sold all its 100 apartments with only a few luxury penthouses now remaining.
It took four years to complete Witham Wharf, which is the tallest building constructed in Lincoln since the 1960's and home to the City's most valuable apartments. The apartments were released and sold over a three-year period, which also saw the Lincolnshire Echo relocate its offices to the development's ground floor.
Priced from £240,000, the remaining two and three en suite bedroom penthouses have spectacular views from generous dining terraces and through full height glazed windows of Brayford Wharf, Lincoln Cathedral, the surrounding town & countryside. They are fitted to a very high specification, which includes surround sound systems, Poggenpohl kitchens with Miele equipment and American fridge freezers. Each penthouse is allocated two secure car park spaces.
Chris Howard, managing director of the developer, Wigford Ltd commented: "We have managed to sell all the apartments in one of the worst property markets recorded which demonstrates the quality on offer. We have seen a trend to more mature buyers, including some who are moving from large family homes in the country or suburbs. With the recently added security systems on offer, residents can easily experience convenient city life as well as use the apartment as a base to travel abroad."
The development has the latest security systems installed and operates dedicated lifts to and from its adjacent car park, fob entry system, centrally recorded CCTV system and a double shift concierge.
Tim Downing, senior partner at Pygott & Crone commented: "Unlike other towns and Cities, Lincoln has not had an oversupply of new build properties and demand has still been relatively good. This along with the planned improvements in transport links over the next two years will help to continue this positive trend.
"We are delighted to have sold all the apartments and now we are starting to see shoots of recovery in the housing market, it won't be long before the few remaining penthouses are snapped up."
Witham Wharf residents' benefit from modern environmental initiatives including Green Roof techniques, ensuring the development is both efficient and environmentally friendly. Comfort cooling is installed as standard in all penthouses to assist in maintaining a constant room temperature, fresh air and improved ventilation throughout the year.
Witham Wharf has won many awards since its construction including a Best Architecture and a Best Development award at The Daily Mail UK Property Awards.
Witham Wharf is holding a penthouse open day between 11am and 2pm on Sunday 12th September. For more information about this or Witham Wharf, please contact Mel Parker at Pygott & Crone on 01522 568 825, Dan Waller at Chesterton Humberts on 01522 546444 or visit www.withamwharf.com

Lincoln Echo see the benefits of a move to Witham Wharf
The Lincolnshire Echo is moving to new premises in the heart of Lincoln in October
The move to the ground floor of Witham Wharf, formerly Wigford House, in Brayford Wharf East, will be the fourth location of this newspaper in its 116-year history.
The Echo started out at 142 High Street in January 1893 before moving to St Benedict's Square about four years later.
Lincolnshire's first daily newspaper to be published and printed in the county moved to its brand new headquarters in Brayford Wharf East in 1984.
The latest move, into a 9,000 square ft office space, is a stone's throw away on the other side of the railway crossing.
Managing director of Lincolnshire Media, which owns the Echo, Mark Price said: "We are absolutely delighted we have this new home for our newspaper and other publications.
"We can now move forward with a confidence and determination that will ensure the continuation of media services to meet the needs and expectations of the people of this county in the years to come."
The Echo's current home has been snapped up by the University of Lincoln and will be used for teaching.
The new offices at the multi-storey Witham Wharf were secured for the Echo by Lincoln-based chartered surveyors Hodgson Elkington from its owner Wigford Ltd.
The Echo was launched by William Cottam and Samuel Burrows, from Lancashire, printing was done by a gas-powered press, and the building was illuminated by electric light – electricity being one of the technological wonders of the era.
Nowadays this newspaper has embraced the internet and digital age through its website and use of video.
Facelift for Brayford Street Car Park
The developers behind Lincoln’s luxury Witham Wharf development are pleased to announce that the adjacent Brayford Street NCP car park has received planning permission for a full refurbishment programme.

The resurfacing and remodelling will create a new 75-bay landscaped and resurfaced car park with modern pay and display facilities, new footpaths, raised pedestrian crossings, trees and better lighting ideal for visitors to the Brayford waterfront or City centre shoppers.
Chris Howard, managing director of developer Wigford Ltd commented: "This area has been blighted for years but slowly we are working to provide Lincoln with a waterfront it can be proud of. The refurbishment of the car park is another piece in the regeneration of the area around the Brayford Pool and helps to re-establishing important links between the waterside and the High Street."
Lincoln's £26million luxury development, Witham Wharf recently received the Best Architecture and a Best Development award at The Daily Mail UK Property Awards 2008. It took two years to complete the development, which is the tallest building constructed in Lincoln since the 1960's and home to the City's most valuable apartments. Eighty-five of the 114 apartments and penthouse have now been snapped up, with prices ranging upwards from £130,000.
The refurbishment of the NCP car park is part of a £700,000 redevelopment of Brayford Street, the multi-storey car park and landscaping around the Witham Wharf development - which includes the greatly admired water feature at the residents’ entrance.

Local Artist Has Designs on Witham Wharf
The developer of Lincoln's exclusive Witham Wharf has commissioned a local artist to give the £26 million development the finishing touch.
Wigford Ltd has asked rising interior design star, Katharine Armstrong-Short to paint five murals in the building's lobby area depicting different views that can be seen from the 114 apartments and penthouses.

Katherine Armstrong-Short painting the beautiful murals at Witham Wharf.
Lincoln-born Miss Armstrong-Short, 33, is used to designing high profile homes in the county and this is the first time she has agreed to work for a developer, raising new challenges: "This the first time I've been given a blank canvas and asked to create a design to compliment the architecture. It is a real honour to be asked to add to this fantastic development."
It has taken two years to build Witham Wharf, which has revitalised the City’s Brayford waterfront and is the tallest building constructed in Lincoln since the 1960's.
Eighty of the 114 one and two bedroom apartments and penthouses at Witham Wharf have now sold and despite challenging market conditions, interest has remained strong.
Chris Howard, managing director of Wigford Ltd commented: “The murals give residents and visitors to the development a fantastic first impression. Our aim was always to give Lincoln a development it can be proud of and it is fitting that Katherine was chosen to enhance the building’s lobby."
Miss Armstrong-Short started her company Style Guide (www.style-guide.co.uk), which is based at Sparkhouse Studios in Lincoln, two years ago. She began by offering a service to people trying to sell their properties, or wanting to give them a new look. She received local fame when she feature on TV’s Ann Maurice Interior Rivalry on Channel 5 in 2006.
Miss Armstrong-Short recently interior designed a penthouse apartment at Witham Wharf, which is now open for viewing.

Open to all national residential property developments and professionals, the awards are regarded as the most prestigious in the UK. Chris Howard, managing director of developer Wigford Ltd commented: "These awards demonstrate it is possible for Lincoln to have leading architect designed buildings which it can be proud of. Prior to construction, the area was in a state of disrepair and an embarrassment to the City. We hope Witham Wharf will now act as a focus for further regeneration of the Brayford waterfront."
Stephen Marshall, Project Director at Witham Wharf’s architect, BDP commented: "The renewed development is playing a major role in the regeneration of the area around the Brayford Pool while re-establishing important historic links between the waterside and the High Street. Furthermore environmental initiatives ensure the development is both efficient and environmentally friendly."
The construction of Witham Wharf involved adding two new floors to the eight-storey building, which are now home to the loft-style penthouses. A £700,000 redevelopment of Brayford Street, the adjoining multi-storey car park (now card or cash payment and open on Sundays) and the street level car park is also well underway. Much needed improvements will include car park resurfacing, new footpaths, raised pedestrian crossings, trees and better lighting as well as the greatly admired water feature at Witham Wharf residents’ entrance.
